We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulously detail-oriented Copywriter to join our team, specializing in the unique and highly regulated landscape of tobacco brand communications. This role demands a strategic thinker with an exceptional command of language, an unwavering commitment to compliance, and the ability to craft compelling, compliant, and brand-consistent messaging within strict legal frameworks. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing all written content for our portfolio of tobacco brands, ensuring every word adheres to industry regulations, internal guidelines, and brand voice. ### What you’ll be doing:
Content Creation & Development:
Develop clear, concise, and persuasive copy for a wide range of marketing and communication materials, including but not limited to: packaging, point-of-sale (POS) displays, trade communications, internal communications, digital assets (where permitted), and brand-specific collateral. - Lead ideation sessions and workshops to develop innovative concepts for experiential marketing campaigns, events, and activations
Craft messaging that effectively communicates brand attributes, product features (e.g., flavour profiles, formats), and brand heritage, while strictly adhering to all advertising and marketing restrictions. - Adapt complex legal and regulatory requirements into consumer-friendly and compliant language.
Maintain an expert-level understanding of all relevant local, national, and international regulations pertaining to tobacco advertising, marketing, and labeling (e.g., FDA, TPD, health warnings, age restrictions, promotional bans). - Proactively identify potential compliance risks in copy and propose compliant alternatives. - Collaborate closely with legal, regulatory, and compliance teams to ensure all copy is meticulously vetted and approved before dissemination. - Stay abreast of evolving regulations and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance. Brand Voice & Consistency:
Develop and maintain a consistent brand voice and tone across all tobacco brand communications, ensuring alignment with overall brand strategy and guidelines. - Work closely with client service and creative teams to translate marketing objectives into effective and compliant copy. Proofreading & Quality Assurance:
Rigorously proofread all copy for grammar, spelling, punctuation, accuracy, and adherence to brand style guides and regulatory requirements. - Ensure all factual claims are substantiated and compliant. ### What we want from you:
Extensive experience as a Senior Copywriter, with a strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional writing skills. - Experience driving creative processes from initial concept and ideation through to final delivery across multiple channels
Prior experience working in an agency environment
Excellent understanding of how to craft compelling narratives for physical spaces and face-to-face interactions
Outstanding portfolio demonstrating exceptional conceptual thinking and storytelling for experiential campaigns
Experience leading ideation sessions and developing creative concepts from scratch
Experience with BTL (below the line) advertising and product marketing such as: packaging, point-of-sale (POS) displays, trade communications, internal communications, digital assets and brand-specific collateral. - Ideally you will have prior experience working with highly regulated industries (e.g., tobacco, pharmaceuticals, alcohol) is highly preferred and a significant advantage. - Exceptional command of the English language, with impeccable grammar, spelling, and punctuation. - The ability to quickly understand and adapt to different brand voices, tones, and styles. - Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a meticulous eye for detail
Strong ability to write clear, concise, and impactful copy under strict constraints. - High level of attention to detail and a meticulous approach to compliance. - Strong time-management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced setting. - Strong research and analytical skills. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate creative concepts and regulatory considerations effectively. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools. - Experience mentoring junior team members and providing creative direction
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field
