The role: Electrical Design Engineer – Offshore Energy | Newcastle We are looking for a proactive and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join our Electrical Design Team in Newcastle city centre. In this role, you will work on a variety of complex, bespoke engineering projects within our Offshore Energy product group. This is a hands-on, technical role where you will contribute directly to the design, delivery and optimisation of high-quality engineering solutions. Your role As part of the Electrical Design team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical designs and supporting projects throughout their lifecycle. Your responsibilities include: Designing electrical systems and solutions for bespoke engineering projects Writing technical specifications and selecting appropriate components Supporting project costing and budgeting activities Providing technical support to customers and internal stakeholders Preparing inspection, test and FAT documentation Contributing to standardisation and efficiency improvements within the Electrical Department Delivering engineering work packages and projects with minimal supervision Ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget Supporting commissioning and installation activities Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across the business What you bring Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering (or similar) Experience in a similar role within a project-driven, engineering environment Strong experience in electrical design, including: Power distribution systems (230V & 440VAC) Machine control and instrumentation systems Control panel design Motor starter and VSD design Experience with Electrical CAD tools (EPLAN Electric P8 preferred) Familiarity with ISO9001 or similar quality standards Knowledge of marine and offshore environments (preferred) Understanding of DNV GL and Lloyd's standards Experience with subsea systems and/or high voltage systems is an advantage Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g. IEC61508, IEC61511, IEC13849) is a plus Commissioning and testing experience is beneficial Who you are A strong communicator, comfortable working with different stakeholders A team player who actively contributes to projects and team success Detail-oriented with strong planning and organisational skills Comfortable working with complex systems and technical challenges Eager to learn, develop and continuously improve Additional information This role may require national and international travel Applicants must have the right to work in the UK Royal IHC is a leading supplier of maritime technology and expert craftsmanship.
