Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement: The UMES 1890 Extension Office invites applications for a full-time, non-exempt, twelve-month, grant-funded, contractual Contingent II position with limited benefits. The position will report to the Extension Nutrition and Health Programs Director. Salary Range: $41,600 - $46,700 Benefits: Benefits other than leave are subject to change by action of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the University System of Maryland, or the State of Maryland. The minimum benefits to be provided to all Contingent Category II employees, on an annual basis, are listed below. These benefits shall be prorated for contracts of less than one year and for less than full-time employment. • Health Insurance - Contingent Category II employees may participate in the State Health Insurance Program and Prescription Plans that are available to state employees. Additionally, Contingent II employees may participate in supplemental retirement plans approved by the State of Maryland and the USM per laws and regulations • Annual Leave - Five (5) days of accrued annual • Sick Leave - Three (3) days of accrued sick leave • Holidays -Eight (8) holidays – New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day Responsibilities: • Complete training in the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) teaching methodology. • Identify, engage, and recruit community groups for class participation. • Plan, develop, coordinate, and deliver nutrition education to adult households with or without children and (K–12) youth, using evidence- based methods, materials, and evaluations. • Plan, develop, coordinate, and deliver FCS education to adult households and (9–12) youth, using evidence-based methods, materials, and evaluations. • Collaborate with community organizations, as well as youth and adult programs in the Tri-County area, to teach classes promoting overall health and wellness for families with or without young children. • Administer evaluation surveys for both adult participants and (K–12) youth groups. • Complete training to gain proficiency in the WebNeers system. • Collect and enter data and submit annual report in the WebNeers system. • Enter data and submit annual report in the UMES Digital Measures system. • Participate in professional development trainings. • Perform technical duties supporting teaching, demonstrations, and other educational activities related to Nutrition and Health Programs. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Physical Demands: • May be required to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting. • May be required to work in adverse weather conditions. • May be required to wear and work in personal protective equipment. • May be required to operate a variety of equipment to include office equipment. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. EXPERIENCE: OTHER: A non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license valid in the State of Maryland. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to learn and understand basic nutrition information. Ability to effectively communicate orally with clients. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to interact with the public in a courteous and efficient manner. Ability to lift and transport supplies and equipment. Ability to maintain accurate client and other records. Skill in performing arithmetic calculations. OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employees in this job class are required to use their personal automobile while conducting official business. Ability to deliver Extension Family and Consumer Sciences education programs or programs related to Health and Wellness, Family Development (parenting); Personal and Family Finance; Food Safety and Preservation, and Aging and Senior Resources Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and multi-task. Ability to work with site coordinators. Willingness to attend occasional evening meetings and out-of-county events. Ability to present a professional image and work independently or as part of a team. Ability to travel within the Tri-County area and collaborate with site coordinators. Competency with Microsoft Office, SPSS, data entry, and general computer skills.
