Application Engineer II - Backend

As an Application Engineer (Backend) at Swiss Re, you will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining sophisticated in-house insurance products. Your contributions to one of our product teams will directly impact the business by implementing solutions that exceed user expectations. **Key Responsibilities:**

• Develop and review code to meet high standards for quality and maintainability
• Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams including requirements engineers, QA specialists, and other application engineers
• Contribute to key decisions and documentation to shape architecture and guide technical direction
• Integrate services and shared platforms such as messaging systems, BPMN workflows, logging frameworks, and telemetry solutions
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and Generative AI developments to enhance solutions continuously **Qualifications Required:**
• Proficiency in software development throughout the software delivery lifecycle, with expertise in Java and Spring Boot
• Experience with public cloud, especially Microsoft Azure
• Knowledge of modern software architecture using synchronous and asynchronous integration technologies like RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, or Kafka
• Proficiency in relational and/or document-based database technologies for domain model design and implementation
• Comfortable working in the IDE and with large codebases **Additional Nice-to-Haves:**
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Knowledge of microservices architecture
• Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks
