Key Responsibilities:
Field Leadership & Installation
Serve as the on-site lead technician for structured cabling, access control, and security projects. - Install, terminate, and test copper (Cat5e/6/6A) and fiber optic cabling to meet TIA/EIA and industry standards. - Install and commission access control systems, including card readers, door strikes, magnetic locks, and control panels. - Install, configure, and aim IP-based surveillance cameras and network video recorders. - Ensure all work meets code, safety, and quality requirements. - Team Coordination & Mentorship
Supervise and guide installation crews, apprentices, and subcontractors to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to standards. - Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior technicians. - Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to maintain clear communication and project alignment. - Technical Execution & Documentation
Interpret and work from blueprints, construction drawings, and scope-of-work documents. - Troubleshoot and resolve field issues quickly and professionally. - Maintain accurate as-built documentation, labeling, and test results. - Communicate material needs, changes, or field conditions proactively. - Additional Support
Occasionally assist with basic AV installations such as mounting displays or running signal cables (HDMI, audio, control). - Participate in project closeouts, client walkthroughs, and punch-list resolution. Qualifications:
3–5+ years of field experience in structured cabling, access control, and security systems. - Proven leadership experience directing installation teams on commercial projects. - Proficiency in copper and fiber optic terminations, testing, and certification. - Familiarity with common access control and security platforms (HID, Lenel, Swiftlane, Verkada, Avigilon, etc.). - Understanding of network fundamentals and low-voltage infrastructure standards. - Ability to read and interpret construction documents, one-line diagrams, and specifications. - Excellent troubleshooting skills and strong attention to detail. - Professional communication skills with clients, peers, and management. - Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Preferred Experience & Certifications:
OSHA 10/30 certification or manufacturer-specific credentials (preferred). - AV installation experience (conference room displays, basic signal routing) a plus. - BICSI Installer or Technician certification preferred. - Experience with structured cabling test equipment (Fluke, OWL, etc.).
