As a remote sensing data scientist at Vertify.earth, your role will involve contributing to the team's efforts in spatial modeling and monitoring of above-ground biomass and carbon sequestration across the project and product portfolio. Your responsibilities will include:
Researching, developing, and applying state-of-the-art models, algorithms, and techniques to analyze earth observation data. - Assessing and predicting vegetation patterns and dynamics within the context of biomass. - Working on new application developments and advancing existing projects related to illegal logging detection, afforestation monitoring, carbon estimations, and biodiversity identification. - Collaborating in European working groups and MRV collectives to shape the future of accurate, transparent, and scalable biomass assessments. - Advising partners and clients on best practices, including certification. This remote role will require you to perform day-to-day tasks such as analyzing data, implementing MRV protocols, and verifying baseline data using geospatial datasets. You will also work with the team to develop tools and processes for streamlining MRV data collection and improving overall accuracy in project reporting. Qualifications required for this role include:
At least 2 years of experience in vegetation remote sensing, preferably in forest and/or agroforestry systems. - A minimum of 1 year of applied knowledge in above-ground biomass assessments and modeling. - Strong practical expertise in spatial modeling, statistical analysis, and machine learning. - Proficient programming skills in Python, and ideally, familiarity with Google Earth Engine (JavaScript). - Previous experience with QGIS and cloud-based computing platforms is advantageous. - Knowledge of carbon standards and certification processes is a plus. - Experience in agile project management is preferable. - Demonstrated pragmatic problem-solving skills and a proactive approach. - Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a diverse team. - Enthusiasm for making a positive social and environmental impact. The remuneration for this role ranges from 40,000.00 to 70,000.00 per month with benefits including a flexible schedule and the opportunity to work from home.
