As the VP of Application and Enterprise Architecture at Synchrony, your primary role is to lead multiple engineering teams and technical leaders across the full stack. Your responsibilities include ensuring optimal staffing levels, hiring, coaching, and developing engineering talent, managing direct reports, and building strong relationships with various departments to deliver cohesive, customer-focused solutions. You will also be guiding the convergence of Community of Practice standards and AI adoption, defining standards for responsible AI adoption, and establishing governance for AI use in regulated financial services contexts. Key Responsibilities:

Ensure optimal staffing levels across front-end, back-end, full-stack, and platform specializations. - Hire, coach, and develop top-tier engineering talent. - Manage direct reports and technical leads, address performance issues promptly. - Build strong relationships with Product, Design, Platform, Data, and agile train leadership. - Foster best practice adoption across the engineering community with AI tooling treated as a first-class part of the practice. - Define standards for responsible AI adoption and establish clear guidance on AI Skills and Agents. - Evaluate, pilot, and roll out AI tools. - Own a modern view of system architecture spanning client, server, data, integration, and AI layers. - Champion patterns such as micro-frontends, event-driven architectures, and serverless architectures. - Guide trade-off decisions and ensure teams document decisions for both humans and AI agents. - Ensure plans align with Community of Practice goals and provide on-call support during escalations.
