PRIMARY PURPOSE The Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Deputy Chief of Staff reports to the Vice President, General Counsel, Chief of Staff and Board Secretary, supervises the Office of Institutional Research, leads institutional effectiveness efforts, oversees institutional data governance, serves as the institutional accreditation officer, and assists the VP/Chief of Staff with implementation of the President's agenda and priorities. This role is responsible for leading institutional effectiveness efforts with the goal of continuous improvement; developing and maintaining institutional key performance indicators; assuring effective and appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes, student experience and satisfaction; and overseeing the establishment and maintenance of consistent data definitions, documentation practices, and governance standards as part of an overall data governance strategy. The ideal candidate will possess experience in collaborative leadership within higher education, strategic use of data for informed decisionmaking, assessment strategies and practices, accreditation, and strategic planning/project management, or relevant experience that demonstrates possession of the skill sets necessary in these areas. To be successful in this position, the individual must excel at coordinating and leading complex institutional projects, which requires developing and maintaining strong relationships across the institution and communicating effectively with partners, stakeholders and the campus-at-large about initiatives and priorities. This individual must also be able to develop and monitor metrics of success for initiatives and priorities, translate complex data into meaningful insights, be able to adapt plans and initiatives as warranted by changing circumstances, and partner with campus leaders as part of an ongoing effort to continuously improve institutional performance and student success and to advance institutional priorities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment Design, implement, and oversee an institutional effectiveness framework aligned with the Strategic Plan, institutional priorities, and recommendations from accrediting bodies and others. Develop and maintain key performance indicators, strategic plan metrics, and outcome-tracking across divisions. Advise senior leadership on data-informed strategy, resource allocation, and organizational improvement. Assure that the three schools at Lewis & Clark engage in effective and appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes, student experience and satisfaction, through a combination of leadership and collaboration with deans, faculty and staff in each of the schools. Partner with departments to interpret assessment results and translate findings into improvement actions. Institutional Research and Data Governance Supervise the Institutional Research team, ensuring high-quality data analysis and institutional support as the college's authoritative source for institutional data, reporting, and analysis. Lead efforts to establish and maintain consistent data definitions, documentation practices, and governance standards, working with campus partners, as part of an overall data governance strategy to maintain data integrity across systems. This includes collaboration with partners across campus, such as Information Technology, Finance, Enrollment, Financial Aid, Registration and Student Success. Accreditation and Compliance Serve as the lead for institutional accreditation processes and liaison with institutional accrediting bodies. Oversee the implementation of recommendations resulting from institutional accreditation or similar external review processes, with a goal of continuous institutional improvement. Oversee and coordinate reporting to federal, state, and institutional accrediting bodies. Ensure compliance with reporting requirements from agencies such as state higher education authorities and the U.S. Department of Education. Standardize reporting practices to eliminate redundancy and improve accuracy. Deputy Chief of Staff Support the Chief of Staff in advancing the President's agenda and priorities through the coordinated implementation of initiatives aligned with the Strategic Plan. Serve as a liaison among administrators, faculty members, external partners, and others working on implementing strategic priorities. Lead or support communications related to strategic planning and institutional initiatives. Provide or oversee assessment and data analytics in support of the President's agenda and priorities. Work as a collaborative member of the President's Office staff. Excellent at translating complex quantitative and qualitative data into clear, meaningful information for varied audiences. Proficient in interpreting state and federal reporting requirements and applying them accurately within institutional reporting practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent leadership presence that guides, supports, and develops professional staff within an institutional research environment. REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Master's degree in social sciences, statistics, higher education administration, public administration, or a similar field. Five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, including significant experience with strategic planning, project management, accreditation, institutional research, assessment, and/or similar roles. Experience supervising professional staff and coordinating cross-functional collaboration. PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Doctoral degree in a social science field, statistics, higher education administration, public administration, or a similar field. Experience leading accreditation processes and institutional self-studies. Experience preparing reports for state, federal, and accrediting bodies. Experience guiding strategic planning through measurable outcomes and key performance indicators. Experience supporting learning outcomes assessment across academic and administrative units.
