Overview & Responsibilities We are seeking a highly analytical and proactive Workshop Engineer (Turbomachinery) to join our growing operations at the KEZAD Free Zone facility in Abu Dhabi. This role is a cornerstone of our technical team, responsible for the engineering integrity and successful execution of complex projects involving steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, and pumps. As a Workshop Engineer, you will independently lead technical projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered within budget and schedule. You will bridge the gap between high-level engineering theory and shop-floor execution, providing the technical expertise necessary to improve product systems, innovate new processes, and maintain our competitive edge in the turbomachinery industry. Job Responsibilities The Workshop Engineer carries a broad mandate covering project management, advanced technical analysis, and cross-functional leadership. Project Management & Execution Project Oversight: Independently plan, budget, schedule, and direct the execution of technical projects, major applications, and tests. Objective Alignment: Ensure all projects meet established objectives within allocated time, cost, and resource constraints. Systems Improvement: Complete designated analytical, experimental, and application programs aimed at product/systems improvement, development, and cost reduction. Documentation: Expand and improve design information procedures and practices, issuing all applicable technical documentation. Technical Analysis & Design Approval Design Control: Review and approve design layouts and associated manufacturing drawings for all assigned projects and shop orders. Complex Calculations: Perform advanced calculations using both analytical and computer-based methods (including finite-element analysis (FEA) and solids modeling). Programming & Modeling: Utilize and/or develop computer programs to resolve engineering problems, including commercial software and self-designed programs (e.g., FORTRAN, BASIC, C++). Analysis Discernment: Discern when to apply basic versus detailed analyses for various engineering challenges. Innovation & Strategic Contribution Technical Innovation: Provide original ideas and innovation; collaborate with the corporate patent department on new ideas and patent applications. Knowledge Sharing: Occasionally submit technical papers for publication and provide regular status updates and reports to supervision. Competitive Intelligence: Institute new programs based on state-of-the-art technology and application processes to maintain market competitiveness. Strategy Alignment: Maintain a deep understanding of company objectives, strategic plans, and technical roadmaps as they apply to products and systems. Leadership & Cross-Functional Support Consultative Expertise: Provide technical guidance to Application and Materials Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Project Management, Purchasing, Production, Service, and Associate Plants. Personnel Development: Provide technical leadership and assist in the development of personnel within your assigned discipline. Inter-departmental Coordination: Coordinate and follow up on activities across different departments to ensure proper phasing and timing of common objectives. Team Participation: Active participation in Product Management Team activities as assigned. Qualifications and Skills The ideal candidate must possess a strong engineering foundation and the ability to work independently on high-stakes technical assignments. Technical Expertise: * Mastery of turbomachinery engineering principles (turbines, compressors, pumps). Advanced proficiency in Finite-Element Analysis (FEA) and solids modeling. Proficiency in programming languages such as FORTRAN, BASIC, or C++ for engineering problem resolution. Professional Capabilities: Proven ability to independently plan and manage project budgets and schedules. Strong aptitude for innovation, with the ability to generate patentable ideas or publish technical papers. High-level analytical skills to resolve complex engineering problems. Soft Skills: Leadership qualities with an interest in developing and mentoring others. Excellent communication skills to provide technical expertise to diverse departments (Sales, Purchasing, Production, etc.). A proactive approach to productivity and quality improvements. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline). Significant experience in a mechanical manufacturing or service workshop environment. Commitment to ongoing career development and staying current with industry technology. Base Location & Work Schedule This is a full time, on-site permanent position based out of our Repair Facility in KEZAD Free Zone, Abu Dhabi. The world turns to Elliott.
