As a Principal Mobile Engineer (iOS) in Air Shopping Experience at Expedia Group, you play a crucial role as a technical leader for the native air shopping stack. Your responsibilities involve coaching senior individual contributors, partnering with engineering management, and shaping the mobile strategy with senior and executive leadership. In this role, you will:
Provide technical leadership and architecture direction for iOS in Air Shopping, defining and evolving the architecture, patterns, and frameworks for air search, filters/sorting, details, ancillaries, and checkout entry across apps and brands. - Turn ambiguous business problems into concrete technical solutions, architecting end-to-end solutions, and scoping them into clear technical requirements and workstreams for multiple teams. - Design and evolve highly complex systems that interface with native apps and services across a business unit, including contracts and integrations with platform services, experimentation, identity, and checkout. - Drive mobile excellence and operations at the organizational level, championing best-in-class mobile practices in UI/UX, performance, accessibility, error handling, and operational excellence. - Make mobile measurable and experimentation-ready by defining and socializing consistent mobile analytics and performance metrics across the Air Shopping stack. - Lead cross-team delivery for large initiatives, coordinating across iOS, Android, web, backend, experimentation, product, and design. - Shape technical strategy and mobile product direction, developing a north-star technical vision for Air Shopping on iOS. - Grow the mobile and architecture community, contributing to and leading mobile and architecture communities of practice. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent professional experience. - 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on building and shipping large-scale consumer mobile applications. - Expert-level proficiency in native iOS development using Swift. - Deep technical knowledge of iOS internals, including concurrency, networking, memory management, and performance tuning. - Experience leading the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and architecting scalable mobile solutions. - Ability to mentor and provide feedback to other engineers. - Advanced expertise in observability, experimentation platforms, and client-server design patterns. Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field. - Success in designing systems and APIs that support evolving business needs simultaneously. - Strategic mindset with a track record of driving new technology choices based on business impact. - Experience mentoring high-level individual contributors and influencing organizational processes.
