Job Description General Summary: As Senior Manager, Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting, you will serve as a strategic advisor to the business—translating complex transactions and evolving standards into clear, actionable accounting guidance. You will deliver rigorous technical research and develop well-documented position papers, executive-ready analyses, and implementation approaches that support confident, flexible decision-making. In doing so, you will help protect the integrity of Vertex's financial reporting, support compliant growth, and advance the Accounting organization's and the company's broader strategic objectives. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct technical accounting research and prepare analyses and whitepapers for complex areas, including collaboration arrangements, lease arrangements, business development transactions, and impairment assessments. Support in the development, maintenance, and training of others on Vertex's accounting policies. Support Business Development, FP&A, and other functional finance groups by researching and concisely communicating the accounting and financial statement impacts of proposed opportunities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new accounting standards and assess related financial reporting implications. Monitor new accounting and reporting guidance, preparing executive-level summaries and implementation plans. Participate in close-related accounting reviews and analyses. Participate in special projects as needed to support the company's growth and scalability. Function as a key liaison for internal and external auditors in areas of responsibility. Education and Experience: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent required. CPA license required; active/in good standing. Typically requires 7+ years of progressive financial accounting and reporting experience, including a minimum of 3-4 years in public accounting (Big 4 or large regional firm preferred). Life sciences/biopharma audit or equivalent industry experience is a plus. Required Knowledge/Skills: Comprehensive and current understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting principles and regulations, with particular emphasis on accounting for: collaboration arrangements, in-licensing/out-licensing transactions, research and development, manufacturing (including inventory and leases) and other considerations common to pharma biotech; business combinations/asset acquisitions; fair value measurement; and stock-based compensation arrangements. Exceptional written communication skills- ability to translate complex accounting concepts into clear, concise whitepapers and related presentation deliverables, policy documents, and financial statement disclosures. Strong ability to articulate technical concepts in plain English to non-accounting professionals. Strong ability to build relationships and work effectively in cross-functional teams. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, with a high degree of professional judgment and diligence. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel. Experience with implementing new accounting standards. Experience supporting M&A transactions, including purchase price allocation and acquisition accounting preferred. Familiarity with Workiva and Oracle or equivalent ERP system preferred. Continuous learner mindset, with familiarity or strong interest in leveraging AI tools and technologies to enhance accounting processes and improve efficiency. #LI-Hybrid #LI-AA1 Pay Range: $126,400 - $189,600 Disclosure Statement: The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
