This position reports to: Head of Engineering __ We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to take ownership of our Medium Voltage Main Switchboard (MV MSB) products within the complete electric power plant systems that ABB delivers to modern marine vessels. Your office will be in Vuosaari, Helsinki. We deliver the complete electric power plant for the vessel – including generators, medium-voltage main switchboards, transformers and the associated protection and automation systems. In this role, you carry the technical responsibility for main switchboard design in major marine delivery projects and ensure that our solutions meet the highest standards in performance, safety and reliability. This position suits a strong electrical engineering professional who enjoys independent decision-making, takes clear ownership, and thrives in a global, project-driven environment. Your role and responsibilities Hold the technical responsibility for Medium Voltage Main Switchboard products in ABB Marine & Ports deliveries. Lead and coordinate main switchboard engineering across customer projects. Develop and maintain standard design solutions, configurations and documentation for MV switchboard systems. Perform power system studies, including: Selectivity and protection coordination Short-circuit calculations Arc flash hazard assessment Configure and program ABB REX6-series protection relays (e.g., REX615), including IEC 61850 station bus communication (GOOSE messaging, MMS, datasets). Support engineering teams in protection relay application engineering, protection philosophies and system integration. Collaborate closely with engineering, R&D, product management and global project teams. Drive continuous improvement in project execution, product quality, engineering processes, testing and software validation. We expect you to have: B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Strong experience with industrial electrical systems, such as generators, motors, switchboards, and electrical distribution. Solid knowledge of medium voltage power distribution in marine or industrial environments. Proven experience with ABB Relion / REX6 protection relays and relay configuration tools. Understanding of IEC 61850 communication, including GOOSE and MMS configurations. Experience performing protection studies, short-circuit calculations or selectivity analysis. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, making sound technical decisions when needed. Fluent written and spoken English and readiness to travel occasionally.
