In this role, you will act as an escalation point for complex network issues that L1 support cannot resolve. You will diagnose and resolve problems related to routers, switches, firewalls, LAN/WAN connectivity, VPNs, remote access, and wireless networks. Additionally, you will perform packet captures and log analysis to troubleshoot network issues. Your responsibilities will include:
Monitoring network performance and ensuring system availability and reliability
Implementing routine configuration changes and firmware/software updates on network devices
Maintaining network diagrams and documentation
Conducting regular network audits and performance tuning You will also assist in deploying new network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls. Configuration of VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), ACLs, QoS, NAT, and port forwarding will be part of your tasks. You will participate in network upgrades and migration projects. Your tasks will involve maintaining accurate records of configurations, incidents, and resolutions. You will create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and provide detailed incident and change reports for stakeholders. In terms of security and compliance, you will be responsible for implementing and monitoring basic security controls, ensuring compliance with internal security policies and external regulations, and responding to network-related security alerts and assisting in investigations. Collaboration and communication are key aspects of this role. You will work closely with L1 and L3 teams, as well as with other IT departments such as Server and Security. Escalating unresolved issues to L3 or vendors as needed and participating in on-call rotations or after-hours maintenance windows are also part of your responsibilities. Some of the typical skills/tools required for this role include:
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and switching
Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or other networking equipment
Familiarity with network monitoring tools like SolarWinds, Nagios, or PRTG
Proficiency in CLI for routers/switches and possibly scripting (Python, Bash)
